As Democrats, we need to show everyone that our government and our democracy can work for them.
Faith, I often get asked how Democrats can reach young voters, a key group we need to engage in every state to win up and down the ballot.
Our campaign reached young voters through consistent online ads on the platforms they use most, we texted, and we organized students and knocked on dorm doors at UC Irvine. I even went to UC Irvine with a student who dressed up as Pikachu and registered new voters!
But here's what I tell people who ask about engaging young voters: As Democrats, we need to show everyone that our government and our democracy can work for them. That means having elected officials who are responsive and represent their voters, not special interests. It means having an economy that actually works for working people. And it means successfully communicating when we pass meaningful legislation—it's my job as an elected official to tell my constituents how I can help—not the other way around! A strong economy, that doesn't leave people behind, will help us have a strong democracy.
Thanks to your support, our campaign was able to deliver that message and show voters what was at stake. We couldn't have won without reaching young voters from all walks of life, and your donations allowed us to do that.
