160 years ago today, the first Memorial Day was observed in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania to honor Union soldiers who gave their lives during the Civil War. On this Memorial Day, I hope you'll join me in remembering the brave souls who gave their lives in service to our Nation in what President Abraham Lincoln described as "the last full measure of devotion." Today and every day, we owe our fallen military, our veterans, and their families a huge debt of gratitude, and I will always fight to ensure we fulfill our commitment to them.
