Hi Faith,
How are things? It's been a wild ride on our side of things as tariffs and trade negotiations continue to shake the ground underneath our feet. I think we're going to be okay but - if you love games - I encourage you to support the small, medium, and large businesses in our industry.
One of the positives I'm focusing on during this is our great relationship with our primary manufacturing partner. When I was a kid, one of my absolute favorite things was when Mr. Rogers would tour a factory and show us how things get made. Crayons, in particular, stick out to me.
I mentioned this to our manufacturing partner once, as an aside and thinking nothing of it. Since then, they've sent us a video of every one of our production runs, largely for my amusement, I think. Here's the one for Bloomchasers, which will be available soon. I hope this video amuses you like it does me.
If you're still reading this, I want you to know a few things about manufacturing and our process:
- We regularly get quotes from the two US-based manufacturers, but they don't have the same abilities as our manufacturing partners.
- China is uniquely qualified with decades of infrastructure and job training to make toys and games in ways no other country can right now.
- Europe and others have pretty strict certifications for manufacturers regarding human rights, pay, work conditions, etc.
- Companies there can only engage manufacturers that meet certain standards.
While we don't have similar regulations in the US, Very Special Games chooses to use manufacturers that meet European standards. I'd love nothing more than to create a bunch of jobs in Memphis (where I live and the best city in the world) and have looked into starting our own manufacturing facility here. I won't bore you with the details (though feel free to ask if you're curious) but it's just not realistic.
Anyway, thanks for your ongoing support of us and of the industry at large. My friends at Underdog Games could use a visit to their site today and I'm sure you'll enjoy any of their awesome Trekking games.
Looking forward to hearing what y'all think of Bloomchasers soon.
Have fun!
Josh
