Faith, want to hear about the wildest election night I've been a part of since we launched Leaders We Deserve?
Last week, we were in Houston, TX supporting our endorsed candidate Molly Cook for Texas Senate in the Democratic primary runoff.
Earlier in the day before polls closed, I was out knocking on doors to help get out the vote and I knocked on the door of a 20-year-old named Kai. When I told him about Molly and the election he said she sounds great, but immediately asked "what corporations are funding her?"
I was able to say none are — because as a Leaders We Deserve endorsee, she agreed not to take any corporate donations.

I immediately saw his face shift from a look of suspicion to excitement. He then said "I don't usually vote in elections for state legislature, but she sounds awesome." So I got his phone number for the campaign to make sure he got out and could vote — and he did!
Later, at the election night event where we were watching the results come in, the tallies showed Molly down by about 400 votes for most of the night. A ton of people actually thought she had already lost.
But at midnight, with all the votes finally counted, she was up 74 votes — and today she's the youngest, most progressive, and first openly LGBTQ+ member of the Texas State Senate as a result.
If there's one thing that day proved to me, it's that every single vote counts. If Kai and just a few others like him had stayed home, Molly wouldn't have won. But because we were there knocking on doors and making the case for our candidate, she did.
We're working to elect even more great candidates this year, Faith, but we need your help. Just like each one of our endorsed candidates, Leaders We Deserve doesn't take corporate donations. We rely entirely on grassroots support to keep up our work.
