Dear Dr. Dillard Azzolina,

Thank you for your message about animal welfare. I appreciate hearing from you.

As the owner of two rescued Labrador retrievers, I believe that we have a responsibility to treat animals with respect. As your representative, I cosponsored multiple bills during the 117th Congress that would strengthen protections for animals both in captivity and in the wild, including:

  • The Puppy Protection Act, which would expand and improve standards for the care for animals at commercial dog breeders
  • The PAST Act, which would strengthen enforcement mechanisms to prevent the harmful practice of horse soring
  • The SAFE Act, which would prohibit the sale or transport of horses in the U.S. that are meant for human consumption
  • The Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act, which would make it illegal to possess, buy, or sell shark fins or products containing shark fins in the U.S.

Please know that I will keep your thoughts in mind as I continue working to ensure that all animals are treated humanely. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office. To receive continuing updates from my office, please follow me on Twitter and Facebook or sign up for my email newsletter.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Wexton
Member of Congress
