Hello tea lover, My great-grandfather moved from the deserts of Marwar in Rajasthan to the misty hills of Darjeeling in the early 1900s.
Back then, Darjeeling was a growing hill town, famous for its tea. In 1931, he opened a small tea store — retailing fresh, local teas to travelers from around the world.
My grandfather, Nandlall Sarda, joined him soon after. Together, they built something simple yet enduring — a business rooted in trust, quality, and a deep respect for nature.
Though I never met them — they both passed away when my father was still very young — their story stayed alive through the values they passed on. That same little tea store still stands today. And in many ways, it planted the seed for what would later become VAHDAM® India.
Recently, I had the privilege of returning to Darjeeling with my parents for a very special reason — to launch the 2025 edition of the VAHDAM® India Nandlall Scholarship, part of our ongoing TEACH ME® initiative.
| | This moment meant a lot to me. We gathered with dozens of students — many of them from farming families who have grown and nurtured teas, herbs, and botanicals for generations. Some want to become doctors. Others, engineers, artists, or educators. But most of them face a common challenge: limited access to quality education. That's why we launched VAHDAM® TEACH ME® — our long-standing commitment to give back to the farmer communities we work with. We allocate a minimum of 1% of our revenue each year to support the education of their children. Through this initiative, we've set up over 75 digital learning centers across rural India. And through the VAHDAM® India Nandlall Scholarship, we provide financial aid and academic support to deserving students — including help with school fees, college admissions, and competitive exam preparation. Watching these students accept their scholarships was an emotional moment. Their smiles, their hopes, their determination — it reminded me why we do what we do. Why this work matters.
| | VAHDAM® was born with a dream — to take the best of India to the world, under a proud, home-grown label. But from day one, we knew that our journey wouldn't be complete unless we also gave back — meaningfully, humbly — to the communities who make our products possible. That's what this scholarship represents. It's a small step. But for many of these children, it could be the start of something much bigger. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being part of this journey. For believing in our mission. And for helping us carry forward a legacy that began in a tiny tea store nearly a century ago. P.S. Have you ever visited India before? If yes, I'd love to hear your fondest memory. If not, we'd be honoured to host you someday — and take you to visit a TEACH ME® Digital Learning Centre. And yes, I promise to write more frequently. With heartfelt gratitude, Bala Sarda Founder, VAHDAM®
