Hey Very Special Friends,
My kids are about to be out of school and I'm terrified. Don't get me wrong, I love them dearly and love spending time with them, and my wife does a great job of finding cool camps and stuff for our 11-year-old, but parenting during the Summer is a different degree of difficulty.
I'm obviously biased, but I think game nights are a great way to maintain sanity and have fun when there's no school tomorrow.
In the category of "games we didn't make but I wish we did," we've been playing a bunch of Monkey Palace at our house. It's pretty easy to get our kids to the table because it's based entirely on building with Lego bricks to earn banana points as you go. The box says 10+, but our 3-year-old sits in and plays pretty well with some guidance. It's definitely one of the rare games (to me) that's appropriately fun for both kids and adults.
If you want to continue supporting us during your Summer game nights, I'll tell you one of my favorite memories was during playtesting for Tiny Laser Heist. On several occasions, Jess and I would host people from the neighborhood to playtest and inevitably always had a wild mix of ages and abilities. Tiny Laser Heist does a really great job of being fun for a wide swath of people - and lets you know who to keep an eye on during your next museum trip.
Anyway, if you have any advice for how I can survive Summer with my kids, I'm all ears.
