Elon Musk's almost certainly illegal stunt

You could win a million dollars!
  • All you have to do is to have signed a "petition" by October 21 from the pro-Trump super PAC bankrolled by tech billionaire Elon Musk saying you "support the Constitution."
  • And live in either Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, or Wisconsin — the so-called swing states in this year's presidential election.
  • And be registered to vote.
Each day, one petition signer from one of those states who is a registered voter gets picked (randomly, they say) to get a check for $1,000,000.

One little snag:

Federal law explicitly and unambiguously prohibits paying people to register (or not) or to vote (or not).

Because the wealthy should not be able to simply buy voters.

But apparently Elon Musk, the world's richest person, did not get the memo.

Earlier this week, Public Citizen filed a formal complaint urging the Federal Election Commission to immediately investigate what appears to be an illegal scheme by Musk and his super PAC (which he has already bankrolled to the tune of some $75 million).

Tell the Federal Election Commission:

It is illegal to pay people to register (or not) or to vote (or not) for the simple reason that rich people would otherwise be able to buy their preferred election outcomes. The FEC must immediately investigate what appears to be an illegal scheme by Elon Musk and his super PAC to pay people for registering to vote.
