| Faith, The Supreme Court recently announced they'll hear a case on whether to restrict access to mifepristone — an FDA-approved medication that abortion patients have used for decades. Before I continue, a few important things to make clear: Mifepristone is safe — and mifepristone is still legal in 37 states right now. This will be the biggest abortion case to be decided by the Supreme Court since Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization — the case that overturned Roe v. Wade. Since then, states have tried to make it extremely difficult to access this medication — or have banned it altogether. Anti-abortion extremists' next crusade is to ban mifepristone nationwide. So my colleague Tammy Baldwin and I introduced a resolution in the Senate expressing support for mifepristone. The resolution affirms Congress' stance that we trust the FDA to determine the safety and efficacy of drugs — not politically motivated institutions, politicians, or judges. So far, this resolution has the support of 40 senators, organizations like Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights, and zero Republicans. I'm going to continue to pull every lever I can to protect abortion access in our country. If you're able to, please donate $28 or anything you can to support our pro-abortion rights campaign so we can continue to fight back against extremists trying to take away our freedoms. | If you've saved payment info with ActBlue Express, your donation will process automatically: | I am fed up with extremists trying to turn back the clock and deny women reproductive health care — especially after decades of science that show that medication abortion is safe and effective. They claim they know the science better than the actual scientists and experts in drug safety and efficacy. Any threat to the accessibility of this drug nationwide would be devastating to both health care providers and patients across the country. In states that already restrict access to mifepristone, patients are more likely to seek procedural abortions later in their pregnancies, resulting in higher costs and elevated health risks. Beyond abortion care, mifepristone is also used to treat miscarriages. This latest development just makes the already-obvious even more painfully obvious: Overturning Roe was never simply about leaving abortion policy to the states. Right-wing extremists and MAGA Republicans are attacking national abortion access at every angle, everywhere. This is about grabbing power however they can. I'm going to keep fighting my heart out in Congress to protect abortion access — but I can't do it alone. We've got to keep pushing, and that's only possible with the support of grassroots supporters like you. So will you please pitch in $28 or anything you can to power this pro-abortion rights fight? Thanks for being a part of this, Elizabeth | | |
