In this Weekly Harvest, we're answering a couple of questions: How does staying hydrated differ in the colder months? And what's the deal with electrolytes? Plus, you'll get two delicious winter mocktail recipes! | | IS IT HARDER TO STAY HYDRATED IN THE WINTER? | | You might be surprised to learn that staying adequately hydrated in the winter can be just as challenging as it is in the scorching summer heat. One of the primary reasons staying hydrated in winter can be challenging is that cold weather can lead to a decreased perception of thirst. | | In the summertime, when the sun is blazing and you're sweating profusely, your body is quick to remind you to drink water. However, in winter, your body's thirst signals can be blunted, making it easier to go for extended periods without feeling the urge to drink. Read on for more reasons you may skimp on hydration in the winter and what you can do about it. | | SKIP THE BOOZE: 2 WINTER MOCKTAILS | | Opting for mocktails over alcoholic beverages allows everyone to partake in the celebration, creating an inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere for all guests, regardless of their alcohol preferences. Here are 2 winter mocktails that you can make this upcoming holiday season. | | INGREDIENTS: 1 orange sliced into rings 1 lemon sliced into rings 2 tbsp maple syrup or sweetener of choice 1 green apple sliced into wedges ½ cup of orange juice 3 cups bottle of alcohol-free red wine or juice of choice INSTRUCTIONS: Place orange, lemon, and sweetener of choice in a large glass pitcher. Place in the fridge for at least an hour. Taste and add more sweetener if needed. Enjoy! | | INGREDIENTS: 2 oz pineapple juice 6-8 mint leaves 1 pinch salt 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice ¾ cup ginger beer 1 tsp apple cider vinegar INSTRUCTIONS Add mint, salt, and lime juice to your glass and gently press a few times with your muddler. Enjoy! | | WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH ELECTROLYTES? | | Proper hydration is about more than just water alone. Electrolytes are a must!* Electrolytes help to carry out a number of vital functions in the body including keeping you hydrated and maintaining healthy muscle and nerve function. | | Minerals like potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium help recharge the body after exercise, travel, a late night out, or long periods of activity - especially in the heat.* Primal Hydration combines these electrolytes with coconut water to support hydration levels so you can perform at 100% every day.* | | *These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA Food & Drug Administration.
