I just introduced a bipartisan bill to create a Digital Consumer Protection Commission. Read more:

Congress has been too slow, it lacks the tech expertise, and armies of Big Tech lobbyists have been able to pick off individual efforts easier than shooting fish in a barrel.

Faith, it's a pattern we've seen over and over again throughout American history:

A big new industry rises up, and Congress creates a new federal agency to regulate it — to protect people from new harms while still preserving innovation.

In 1887, the Interstate Commerce Commission took on railroads.

In 1934, the Federal Communications Commission took on radio (and then television).

In 1975, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission took on nuclear power.

So here's the way I see it: it's time for a nimble, adaptable, new agency with expertise, resources, and authority to take on Big Tech. Congress has been too slow, it lacks the tech expertise, and armies of Big Tech lobbyists have been able to pick off individual efforts easier than shooting fish in a barrel.

So I just introduced a bipartisan bill to create a Digital Consumer Protection Commission. This independent regulator would keep an eye on the nation's biggest tech companies, like Meta, Google, and Amazon — to prevent online harm, promote free speech and competition, guard Americans' privacy and protect national security.

If you agree that Big Tech companies need proper oversight, add your name as a grassroots co-sponsor of the Digital Consumer Protection Commission Act — we're going to have to fight side by side to get this done and rein in giant tech companies.

The digital revolution has given us amazing new opportunities, but it's come with a real dark side.

Giant digital platforms have created new ways to spread the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and bullying — while promoting eating disorders, addictive behaviors, and teen suicide.

A few Big Tech companies are stomping out potential new rivals with anti-competitive practices, including running the very platforms that they also operate on (looking at you, Google) (and you too, Amazon).

And Big Tech has vacuumed up our personal data, leaving it vulnerable to being stolen and usually leaving us in the dark about how it's being used.

Enough is enough. It's time to rein in Big Tech. Meaningful change is structural change — and that's what this new commission would deliver.

Faith, do you agree our government must protect the freedom of the American people from the ever-changing whims of these powerful companies and their unaccountable CEOs? Add your name to say you support this bill — it's important to show this commission has strong support.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth
