Ahmaud Arbery

Faith — 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery was out for a jog when he was shot and killed by two white men. For months after the shooting, the gunmen weren't arrested or charged with a crime. This week, they were finally arrested after a leaked video spurred national outrage. Now, Ahmaud's grief-stricken family is demanding accountability. They launched this petition with the Georgia NAACP to demand the resignation of the district attorney who handled the case. Add your name to demand justice for Ahmaud.

We, the undersigned, demand resignation of Brunswick District Attorney Jackie Johnson for not issuing a warrant of arrest for the murderers of Ahmaud Arbery on February 23, 2020.

On Sunday, February 23, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery was unarmed when he was chased and gunned down by Travis and Gregory McMichael. Gregory McMichael was an investigator for the office of Brunswick Judicial Circuit. The deadly pursuit of Ahmaud had been stated to be a "citizen's arrest" but the McMichaels had no legal authority to make that action in the first place. Jackie Johnson should have filed for an arrest warrant immediately. Instead, she recused and Attorney General Chris Carr appointed George Barnhill of the Waycross Judicial Circuit as prosecutor. Then, Barnhill recused himself which led to another failure of justice. Now, the case sits with Tom Durden, the District Attorney of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit.

Travis and Gregory McMichael must be arrested immediately. They should have been arrested on February 23rd and as a result she should resign due to judicial malpractice.
