Essential workers

Faith,

During the COVID-19 crisis, millions of people like you are using Change.org to show those in power just how critical essential workers are. You're rallying behind hazard pay for what has become very hazardous work.

And with that support, with your support, essential workers are starting to win.

Healthcare Workers

As a respiratory therapist, Melliesha comes face-to-face with the dangers of COVID-19 every day. Many of you have started petitions to provide healthcare workers with proper safety gear. Melliesha wants the federal government to take it even further. She's asking them to pay wages that reflect the danger that healthcare workers face while saving lives. Over 400,000 people have taken action with Melliesha — and more of you are joining every day.

Your voices are so loud, The Washington Post reported on the growing movement, writing "When an entire branch of our nation's workforce must collectively gear up day after day for life-threatening work, with little to no protection, they deserve hazard pay."

Postal Workers

In the face of an infectious disease, postal workers continue to deliver the mail we're more reliant on than ever. And the public is showing it's gratitude. Over half a million Americans are united behind a petition started by mail carriers asking the USPS for hazard pay. Your relentless support has caught the eye of major outlets like FOX News and CBS News with television coverage on MSNBC

From CBS

"Despite all the disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, mail delivery has remained one of the most steady parts of society. But as the number of coronavirus cases increases, United States Postal Workers are saying it's time they receive hazard pay."

Delivery Drivers

Right now, delivery drivers are working to make sure families get what they need to survive. But many are doing this low-wage work without extra support from their employers. Employees of one of the largest pizza chains in the country, Domino's Pizza, started a petition for the company to push franchises to pay hazard pay to workers and delivery drivers. 2,000 supporters have backed Domino's employee Lindsey on her mission.

Beth is a delivery driver and she was moved by Lindsey's petition to take action. Here's why she signed on: "I can't afford not to work and now can't make enough to survive while working even though I'm putting my life on the line to bring other people food."

Grocery Workers

Thousands of grocery workers are using the power of the Change.org community to pressure their employers for hazard pay. Trader Joe's employees in New Jersey say in their petition"All we want is to be paid fairly for this. We are asking for Hazard Pay at time and a half." 50,000 people have gotten behind them.

Christian is a Walgreens employee who risks his health and the health of his family, including an elderly, immunocompromised father, by going to work. His petition for hazard pay is growing quickly with 70,000 supporters and was recently profiled in The New York Times"[Walgreens] has been criticized on Facebook and Twitter, and a Change.org petition asks Walgreens executives to give workers gloves, masks, hand sanitizer and hazard pay."

You and your neighbors are part of the Change.org community that is fighting for fair pay and workplace safety. And together, you're winning in these challenging times. With that support, people who otherwise feel unheard and marginalized are taking action every day to make the change they want to see — and it's working.

Thank you for taking action,
