Hi Faith, As a nurse, I know getting the right help at a critical moment can be the difference between life or death. You also learn how to quickly assess who is going to help you give the patient the best care, and who may not be up to the job. When I met Alex I knew she was someone who would go the extra mile. Together, we were going to make sure what happened to my husband never happen to anyone again. You see, my husband Jim almost died on the job. Jim is a package delivery driver for UPS, and despite serious health and safety concerns, the company refuses to put air conditioning in their trucks. This lack of care for their employees led to my husband getting heatstroke, being hospitalized, and almost losing his life. This should never have happened and it could have easily been prevented. I quickly learned this happens a lot and some of the drivers had not been as lucky as my husband. Nobody should lose their life because a billion dollar company wants to save money. So I turned to Change.org and started a petition. That is when Alex Rapson called. She is a campaigner on the Change.org team and was calling to offer expert advice about how to win my petition. One thing you should know about me is I’ve never been one to back away from a fight, as I said I’m a nurse, and we don’t back down when it comes to our patients’ safety or those we love. I was ready to wage a campaign against the company that failed to protect my husband and Alex was there when I needed her most. She was able to amplify all of my efforts in a way I never expected. Alex helped me express the human stakes of our story in my petition. Then, her team emailed my story to thousands of supporters and the petition exploded — nearly half a million signatures as of today. Alex worked with journalists from around the country to get my story into the national news and I just knew UPS was listening. And then the big moment came: the petition delivery. This is when I brought all of those signatures to the UPS headquarters in Atlanta. It took a lot of resources, but Change provided the financial support to make sure it happened. The entire time, Alex was by my side guiding me when I needed it. With that type of support, you are always waiting for the catch. But it never came. Instead of getting a bill for all that support, I got an ally and a friend. I learned this support is made possible by the very people who use Change.org. They are called Change.org Members and they give monthly to help keep Change.org open, free and independent. 100% of the support I received was funded by people like you. Knowing how I was able to get so much help from Alex for free allowed me to focus on the campaign. When you are reading this I’ll likely be with Alex, sitting in my New Jersey kitchen sipping our coffee as we discuss the next steps to win. I can only hope that more people like me get to benefit from Alex’s expertise when they launch their own petition. The generosity of people like you helps make that possible. Thanks for everything. And if you'd like to learn more about my campaign, please visit my petition page. Theresa Klenk PS: Want to help more people like me create real change?
