Special Olympics

President Trump: don't cut the Special Olympics

Faith,

I'm sorry to interrupt your day. However, this is important. It's regarding deep cuts to Special Olympics funding. Secretary DeVos said just earlier this week, "We had to make some difficult decisions."

When asked how many children this will negatively impact she claimed not to know.

I DO know.

These cuts to Special Olympics will negatively impact hundreds of thousands of exceptional children.

The White House’s proposed budget includes eliminating $17.6 million in grants to programs like the Special Olympics. Right now, in this very moment we must necessarily let the President know this is unacceptable.

My name is Albert and this issue is so important to me because it’s personal.

My youngest son participated in the November 2015 Special Olympics – winning a medal in bowling and competing in track and field events too.

My son and I refuse to stand by while the government threatens to cut such an essential program. Stand with us and let's make sure the Special Olympics are here to stay.

The Special Olympics is working to end discrimination, and they are actually achieving that. By holding the events, the Special Olympics tackles the stigma, isolation, and injustice that those with intellectual disabilities face.

The Special Olympics also works to gain better access to health services for those with intellectual disabilities. Those with disabilities are often denied health services and die on average 16 years earlier than the general population.

Millions of athletes take part in the Special Olympics all around the world. Let’s tell President Trump not to cut funding to the Special Olympics, which provides so many vital services to those who really need it.

Please add your voice to this important issue by signing my petition and sharing it with everyone you know. Together, we can show that the American public is against cutting budgets that empower people with disabilities.

Thank you for your support,
